Thatch research update

This workshop presents the results to date of an NFU Mutual Insurance and Historic England research project being undertaken at the FPA’s advanced fire test laboratory. The investigation has the advantage of full-scale test facilities and state-of-the-art instrumentation systems to look at prevalent thatch fire causation.

The programme has identified and confirmed the predominant fire raising methods in thatch. This new knowledge will assist the insurance and heritage sectors in offering better advice to property owners on mitigation measures. The research will contribute to reshaping the loss experience in the future.
