Historic. The City of San Antonio is one of the oldest Spanish colonization of the European settlements in Texas and has 19 local historic districts as designated by National Register Historic Districts. In 2015, the San Antonio Missions were awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. The site includes five mission complexes found along the San Antonio River and were the only site in the U.S. considered for world heritage status during the 39th session of the World Heritage Committee.
