IHBC West Midlands – CPD Event: Wightwick Manor MEND project
16 September 2024 - 09:30 - 15:00
£22 – £38In person | 16th September 2024 | 9.30am – 3.00pm
In September we’re meeting at Grade I listed Wightwick Manor for talks on ‘MEND’, a three year repair project funded in 2023 by Arts Council England to repair Wightwick’s timber framing, timber cills and window frames, repair the roof, repoint the chimneys, and adapt the building’s guttering to cope with climate change.
The day will focus on the conservation of Kempe’s stained glass windows within the Great Parlour, detailing the history and repair methods, and how the rest of the project has worked along side this element. This is a rare opportunity for attendees to meet and listen to the Wightwick Team along with the MEND project team hear about and see the completed work itself. There will be the opportunity of a tour of the interior and exterior of the building.
For those unfamiliar with the site, Wightwick Manor was built in 1887-8 with a later extension in 1893, and furnished according to the Arts & Crafts ideals. It is recognised as an important example of the architecture and design of the later 19th century, containing much work by the leading designers of the day, including Morris & Co. and Kempe, and is one of only a few such houses.
As ever, places are limited, so please book your ticket now to avoid disappointment. Prices are £20 for members and £30 for non-members, including lunch and tea/coffee throughout the day. Guests are more than welcome to attend. If you have special dietary requirements, please email us the specifics as soon as you’ve registered, so that we can ensure you’ll be well looked after on the day.
Registration is at 9:30AM for a 10:00AM start.
