Join us on the 10th October 2025 for an in-depth and timely study day on fire protection and regulations for historic buildings. This in person day course provides an introduction to, and awareness of the spread and growth of fire in traditional and historic buildings. The day is lead by Steve Emery CMI FireE, an acknowledged expert in the field and Director of Heritage Fire Consultancy ltd with over 50 years experience in fire safety.

The day will include: An understanding of the spread and growth of fire; Overview of fires in heritage buildings; Weaknesses in heritage buildings and fire spread; Historic fire testing and solutions; Legislation and guides; Fire Safety Order; Fire Risk Assessments; Ecclesiastical buildings including Cathedrals; the use of decision-making tools; Fire resisting doors; Fire testing of doors; Typical failures of doors; Building a new copy of a medieval door.
Hosted by the IHBC and the South Branch IHBC Branch Partnership Scheme, the event will take place at Shaw House, Newbury, a fully accessible venue which is ideally situated on the north side of Newbury. There is free parking on site and it is accessible by public transport.

A buffet sandwich lunch and refreshments during the day are included in the ticket price.
