Historic England: Salvage and Disaster Recovery Course

21 October - 08:00 - 23 October - 17:00
£675

Hosted at our Emergency Planning Training Centre, the 3-day Salvage and Disaster Recovery course provides delegates the opportunity to put theory into practice so they are better equipped if they have to deal with a real emergency. Anyone who is expected to take charge of an emergency situation, or participate in the salvage and protection of artefacts is given the opportunity to practice salvage skills in realistic incident conditions and ultimately use an emergency plan effectively.

The course provides hands-on experience of how to resolve an incident, working with Fire & Rescue Service teams to:

  • Understand the emergency services’ command and control system
  • Recognise the dangers associated with salvage operations
  • Lead or work in salvage teams
  • Know how to work safely, in emergency situations
  • Handle and treat damaged artefacts and learn triage techniques

Historic England runs the course in conjunction with experts from the English Heritage Trust, the National Trust, and West Midlands Fire Service.

The course fee for April 2025 to March 2026 is £675 per delegate.

This includes 3 days of training from heritage and fire safety specialists, a live salvage exercise, buffet lunches, one evening meal and two nights bed and breakfast at a local hotel.

We currently have spaces available on the following courses:

  • 21-23 October 2025
  • 24-26 March 2026
