In 1946 the City of Westminster produced a plan calling for the wholesale demolition of the area, with the report\u2019s authors labelling it a \u2018misplaced environment\u2019 existing solely for gambling and prostitution. The plan never came to fruition, but Soho remained under threat until it was designated as a Conservation Area in 1972.<\/p>\n<p>Explore the morning after the night before in the streets and alleys that shaped London\u2019s most notorious nightlife district. Learn about colourful local characters and the buildings that created a backdrop to their lives.<\/p>\n<p>Featured buildings include Brewer Street Car Park (J. J. Joass, 1929), Prince Edward Theatre (Edward Stone, 1930), Marshall Street Baths (Alfred Cross, 1931), Notre Dame de France (Hector Corfiato, 1953-5), and Walker\u2019s Court (SODA, 2019) on the site of the famous Raymond Revuebar.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a one-hour break for lunch and a variety of eating establishments can be found nearby. The event will end at 3pm inside the Coach &amp; Horses Soho pub, the 1937 interior of which was faithfully recreated on stage in 1989 for Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell (a play occasionally performed in the pub itself).<\/p>\n<p>Carlos Finlay is a Heritage Consultant at Alan Baxter. Andrew Jackson is a C20 Society Trustee.
