{"id":6781,"date":"2017-10-24T14:20:17","date_gmt":"2017-10-24T13:20:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/events\/?p=6781"},"modified":"2017-10-22T18:23:10","modified_gmt":"2017-10-22T17:23:10","slug":"conservation-of-architectural-ironwork-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/events2600.live-website.com\/?p=6781","title":{"rendered":"Conservation of Architectural Ironwork"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>11-12 April 2018<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nhig.org.uk\/events\/venues\/society-for-the-protection-of-ancient-buildings\/\">Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB)<\/a>, London<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Aimed at craft practitioners and consultative professionals, this course is a comprehensive introduction to the conservation of ironwork for those involved in its care, covering historical context, metallurgy of wrought iron and steels, traditional tools, techniques &amp; materials, design &amp; manufacture. \u00a0With a focus on the processes of restoration, the course will also guide you through\u00a0surface preparation and treatments, specification &amp; standards for heritage ironwork contracts, including a procurement and pricing exercise.\u00a0 The lectures will be complemented by a site visit to survey historic ironwork and develop a strategy for its conservation.<\/p>\n<p>Delegates will learn the basic principles of assessing historic ironwork in situ and making decisions about its care. Tender procedures often require the commissioner of the work to have knowledge of the medium in order to procure the best value. We aim to equip those wishing to commission work on listed ironwork with information they will find essential in the writing of specifications.\u00a0 Lecturers\u00a0<strong>GEOFF WALLIS &amp; CHRIS TOPP\u00a0<\/strong>themselves are craftspeople and acknowledged experts in the field of historic ironwork conservation.
