{"id":6408,"date":"2017-05-23T14:28:11","date_gmt":"2017-05-23T13:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/events\/?p=6408"},"modified":"2017-05-23T12:31:16","modified_gmt":"2017-05-23T11:31:16","slug":"insight-tour-duff-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/events2600.live-website.com\/?p=6408","title":{"rendered":"Insight Tour: Duff House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong> 1 June 2017<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Duff House<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Architect William Adam designed Duff House for William Duff, Lord Braco (later 1st Earl Fife) an astute businessman and politician who wanted not only to succeed, but also to be seen to succeed<\/p>\n<p>In 1735 work began on Adams&#8217; design with elaborately carved details being produced in Adam\u2019s own stonework\u2019s in Queensferry. In 1741 worked stopped. Copies of Adam\u2019s original plans, which hang in the buildings study, show the grand curved east and west wings that were never built. By the 1950s, the building had fallen into disrepair and was taken into state care. An extensive programme of conservation works were undertaken and in 1995 Duff House reopened.<\/p>\n<p>This spring and summer a further programme of conservation works will take place including the repointing of chimneys and re-capping of their flues.
