Damaged by fire in the 1980s, it was partially rebuilt in 2001 but lacked the buzz and attraction of a thriving market place.<\/p>\n<p>The building and two others on Alma Place were purchased by Redruth Revival CIC in 2017 and redeveloped into a thriving economic, cultural and community hub at the heart of the town, with workspaces and an active programme of markets and entertainment. The principal space is Cornwall\u2019s first food hall and was officially opened in January 2025. Tamsin and Ross will give an overview of the project, which was made possible from over \u00a34m in grant funding from the NHLF, AHF, Historic England (through the HSHAZ), and Cornwall Council.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tour 2: REDRUTH HSHAZ &amp; THE ARCHITECTURE OF JAMES HICKS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Led by Samantha Barnes, Listing Adviser at Historic England (and IHBC SW Cornwall rep)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This tour will give a brief insight into the buildings of Redruth\u2019s principal 19<sup>th<\/sup>-century architect, James Hicks. A Redruth man who rarely left Cornwall, Hicks was responsible for many of the public buildings in Redruth town centre, which were the focus for the listing activity as part of Redruth HSHAZ. There will also be the opportunity to see more of the town and think about some of the topics presented in the morning sessions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tour 3: KRESEN KERNOW \u2013 Cornwall\u2019s Archive Centre<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Led by Tamsin Mallett, Kresen Kernow Collections and Development Manager <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Come and see behind-the-scenes at Kresen Kernow, including a tour of the public areas, the strong rooms, the preservation and digitisation studios, and a peek at the fascinating range of items they hold. It will also cover some of the historic features of the building, which was redeveloped from a derelict brewery into an award-winning start-of-the-art archive centre in 2019. Along with the Buttermarket, it is key to the recent and ongoing regeneration of Redruth. The tour involves walking and using stairs.
