About the venue:<\/strong><\/p>\n

In brief the venue is Grade II listed Pattern Church\u00a0https:\/\/www.patternchurch.org\/<\/a>\u00a0 is housed in the former Pattern store and water tank for the GWR works, originally constructed in 1897 its special interest is summarised\u00a0* A rare survival of a purpose-built pattern store, constructed by and for the Great Western Railway works in 1897 * Its massive cast iron water tank, which surmounts the entire area of the building, remains in situ * The building has survived without later extension or major alterations, and retains its original layout and fireproof stairwell * Group value with the adjacent Grade II listed engine turntable (qv), and the other listed buildings of the former GWR works to the east of Rodbourne Road<\/em><\/p>\n

The building is within Swindon\u2019s Railway Conservation Area, which encompasses the highly significant former Great Western Railway (GWR) works, Swindon Railway Station, and the internationally important railway village.<\/p>\n

The area has been the focus of the Swindon Heritage Action Zone (HAZ), with projects relating to specific buildings and the areas streets and spaces.<\/p>\n

By Rail \u2013 The Pattern Church is approximately 1km from Swindon Railway Station. The walk (approx. 20 mins) can either take you via the village (crossing under the mainline by the Mechanic\u2019s Institution) via the historic works, or continue past the GWR park and St Mark\u2019s Church, taking the footpath of Rodbourne Road that heads under the mainline, just east of the Pattern Church.<\/p>\n

By Road \u2013 Parking is\u00a0immediately adjacent (north) to the west carpark for the Designer Outlet Village. Both are accessed from Great Western Way\u00a0via Penzance Drive<\/u>\u00a0(only). There is also the north Outlet car park not too far away (parking is chargeable).<\/p>\n
